Microsoft has an AI model that can run on a standard CPU, potentially saving lots of energy – we need that

From an article in Tech Xplore, Microsoft has a AI model that can run on a standard CPU instead of the GPUs most of the big AI models run on. What is significant here is that a CPU uses a lot less energy than the GPUs such as the NVIDIA type AI GPUs

Considering the explosion of AI and data centers here in the USA, this could be a huge change in investment and energy costs. A lot of AI and datacenter projects are creating demand for electrical power that far outpace the current capacity. So much so many utilities are building “peaker plants” and adding traditional power plants. There is also a lot of push for new Nuclear type plants that are Next Generation let’s say,

That being said, if this new AI model could reduce that power consumption demand dramatically, it would do a “world of good” at slowing down this explosion of new capacity power generation. And save a lot of costs correspondingly. Let’s see how this goes
